Artist's Comments

Well I completed this after finally deciding with the idea I had in my head and as you can see, the idea was for the glass to actually become the water.

I quite like the end result and it now has a kind of surrealism to it. Is it a glass, isn't it a glass etc. I'm glad i tried something different and stayed away from the bog standard "water pouring into a glass" routine.

I will definitely do more water drawings as I feel they have such a great feel of movement and motion from how water reflects light to how shadows are created. Also, drawing water allows for quite a lot of artistic license because if I want to add bubbles, I'll add bubbles, if I want to add some shadow, I'll add shadow etc, etc, etc,.

This was seriously frustrating and I got so fed up trying to create ripples just from my own head and imagination that I ended up rushing this part which is why it just doesn't look as clean and perfect as I would like it to have been.

Never mind, we live and learn.

I went slightly too dark on some parts of the ripples but decided to leave it as it is before I completely ruined it. I do tend to overwork areas when drawing which often leads to drawings that don't live up to my own expectations.

Imagination for the ripples

As always, critique, comments, help and advice are always welcomed but do bear in mind that I want it to be constructive.

Also, bear in mind that this is a scan and so it does look a little grainier than the actual original drawing.

Edit:- Added a border/frame in photoshop and created a horizon effect by erasing some of the smudgier pencil blends.

Also changed the watermark slightly.

Wow!!! I thought this was photo manipulation! :O_o: Very well done!!! I really like all the bubbles. It really adds a great affect. One thing though is I know what you are saying about the ripples. They are really well done considering that it was drawn in the first place. I could not have done that well on a piece that involves ripples yet. But I think that if they were further apart the shadows wouldn't be bad. I, personally, think that it would look better then if you made the shadows lighter. However, I would not stress about it; like I said, it looks really great! One more thing I would like to bring up is the bubbles in the bottom of the glass on the left side and the water pouring into the glass. They look great, but close up they look a little sketchy and smudgy. I would say that it looks well enough to where it would look like you did this on purpose. I think you did. This piece reminds me a lot of my friend who always says "It's centered!!! Un-center it!" However I believe as long as you do it intentionally, it will look well, and I assure you; it does. Even considering; it still looks wonderful. An amazing capture! =)

When I first saw this, I thought it was just a picture of water pouring into a glass. Then I noticed it looked like a water drop, so I thought it was one of those drop pictures... but I realized it would be impossible to make a drop picture like that, so I thought it was a photomanip...

Then I finally read the artist comments and looked at the category. O_O This is an amazing work of art! The concept and execution is simply breathtaking.
